After the consolidation of the national borders, several kings settled here, especially during the period of the maritime discoveries, in the XV and XVI centuries, and several palaces and churches were erected. Remains of different civilizations and times are practically intact in this city of medieval streets and arcades, giving it the epitome of the museum-city.
